OUTLINE OF CALENDAR PROJECT
WHAT IS THE ICLU CALENDAR?
The calendar is an attractive and useful date book in a week at a glance format. It includes holidays etc., pages for notes, and similar user-friendly' features. It also contains information on civil liberties and the ICLU: an introductory essay, a copy of the Bill of Rights, and a civil liberties quote on each page. The design has won national arts awards in every year the calendar has been produced.
HOW DOES THE PROJECT WORK?
There are two components: design and page sales. Design is handled by the graphics firm Antennae, in conjunction with ICLU staff. Page sales are the heart of this project, and the method through which the calendar raises needed funds for the ICLU.
Each page sells for 300 dollars. Up to ten people can purchase a single page. Purchasers names appear on the pages, and specific pages can be reserved, on a first-come, first served basis. Pages may designate 'honorees' or may memorialize someone who has passed away. They may advertise a business, so long as design guidelines are followed. Purchasers who wish to specify a quote may do so, or one will be assigned.
Five co-chairs will work under the direction of Carolyn Hardman, this year's Coordinator. (This year, in a couple of cases, a married couple will act as a single co-chair) Each co-chair will be responsible for recruiting ten Team Captains. Each Team Captain will be responsible for the sale of three pages. The most likely scenario is that the Team Captain will put together one page and will recruit two other individuals who will each put together a page. The goal is 150 pages sold.
WHAT DO PURCHASERS GET FOR THEIR MONEY?
Each person who buys a page, or any portion of a page, receives a calendar--a value of 14.95. The excess of the purchase price over the value of the calendar is fully deductible, as the payment goes to the ICLIL Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization.
WHAT IS THE PROJECT SCHEDULE? ?
Co-Chairs should try to recruit Team Captains before January 15, 1996, when page sales win begin. It is our goal to complete all page sales by March 1st. THIS IS IMPORTANT, BECAUSE LAYOUT AND PRINTING TAKE A GREAT DEAL OF TIME.
WHAT SUPPORT WILL I GET FROM THE ICLU OFFICE? ?
We will supply the names of past purchasers, and potential Team Captains. We will handle any necessary billing (and yes, we take MasterCard and Visa!) If you need self-addressed, stamped envelopes, we can provide them. Our goal is to make your job as simple as possible--but to give you only what you really want and need, not to clutter your life with unnecessary paperwork!
HOW MANY MEETINGS WILL I HAVE TO ATTEND?
Again, this is your call. Our intent is to hold an initial meeting, a meeting sometime the first of February to discuss any problems, trade ideas and the like, and a final meeting to 'debrief’ and celebrate. In the interim, Carolyn will contact Co-Chairs by phone and / or fax on a very regular basis, and Co-Chairs will be expected to keep in close communication with their Team Captains.
ANYTHING ELSE?
Yes. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for helping the ICLU and our defense of civil liberties. This is a very important project for us, and we couldn't do it without committed volunteers. You are protecting free speech, religious freedom and a woman's right to choose, among other important liberties.
