Gay and Lesbian Indianapolis (GayIndy.Org) was started in May 1995 by Ken Shay to provide the Gay and Lesbian communities and their friends in Indianapolis a small piece of cyberspace to call home.
In a short time, GayIndy.Org became the Internet source for information about the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgendered communities of Indianapolis. By early 1996 an e-mail distribution list was started to keep people informed about events, activites and entertainment. In 1997, GayIndy.Org began offering free e-mail addresses and web page space for not-for-profit groups and organizations serving the GLBT Communities of Indiana.
In early 1998, GayIndy.Org became part of the Diversity, INC.. Diversity, INC. is Indianapolis' first GLBT Community Center. In addition to providing meeting and office space, Diversity, INC. is home to the Christopher Gonzalez Memorial Library and Archives.
