PARKVIEW

Background and Location

Parkview Manor is a free-standing long term care facility dedicated to the care of HIV/AIDS residents exclusively. Services range from short term antibiotic therapy, long term placement and hospice care. A professional staff composed of nurses, social services, chaplain and caring, compassionate staff members strive to make the residents feel at home while offering a range of therapeutic services.

Parkview opened its doors with 39 beds available for the HIV/AIDS population in March of 1990. At one time it was a school for the mentally handicapped, and in the 1980's offered care for the geriatric population. The inception of caring for HIV/AIDS residents came about from a nursing home administrator who was himself infected with HIV. Having experienced that care was hard to access, he began looking into the possibility that a nursing home in the Indianapolis community could devote its entire bed capacity to a specialized facility, where men and women would receive specialized treatment in a compassionate environment. It was the inspiration of this administrator that led to special funding, the Parkview Bill, making his dream possible.
