INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (4 May 1998) -- This year, on June 27, 1998, in Indianapolis, Indiana, young people from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio will be able to participate in the Indiana Youth Group's first-ever YOUTHpride event. YOUTHpride '98, an event supporting diversity, self-discovery, and self-pride, will take place at Military Park in Indianapolis, Indiana, on June 27, 1998, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. YOUTHpride '98 will unite youth from all ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, and sexual orientations. YOUTHpride '98 intends to encourage healthy living, both physical and mental, by hosting volunteer opportunities, college, and job fairs, as well as various health-issues booths. Entertainment is planned for the entire day, including live bands, comedians and guest speakers.
"Never beofre has the entire Midwest youth population been invited to celebrate their differences," says Jacob, coordinator for the event. "Uniting this many people should prove to be very educational and empowering." Jacob has been working on YOUTHpride since January. YOUTHpride's Entertainment Chairperson, Jeremiah, had this to say: "I am very enthusiastic about YOUTHpride '98 because I think it will be a very good opportunity for the GLB youth community to bond with the supportive straight youth."
