MOBY DICK! THE MUSICAL WILL LAUNCH TOTS' 2003/04 SEASON

MOBY DICK! THE MUSICAL opens on August 15, 2003 and runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 through September 13, 2003 at a cost of $20 per ticket. Admission for students and senior citizens is $17, with group rates available.

The girls of St. Godley's School are in trouble! Money for the school has run out and the place will have to close. Leave it to these resourceful girls, and their unflappable headmistress (played by a man in drag), to come up with a plan to keep the school afloat. Using whatever they can find at hand, the girls mount an original production: a musical version of Moby Dick, featuring their headmistress in the coveted role of Captain Ahab.

A cult favorite in London in the 1990s, Moby Dick! The Musical has been re-conceived for an American sensibility. As Melville rolls in his grave, our spirited girls run roughshod over the classic as they carry on with their presentation. Warning: What The Rocky Horror Show does to late night horror movies, Moby Dick! The Musical does to Herman Melville! As the girls perform their adaptation of the classic novel, they develop an appreciation of education and camaraderie - NOT! Filled with double and triple entendre, and more goofy humor than you can imagine, St. Godley's presentation of Moby Dick! The Musical is sure to make audiences laugh -- and exit humming an irresistible musical score.

To purchase tickets, please contact the TOTS Box Office at 317-637-8085. For more information and directions to the theatre, check out www.tots.org

Lesbian Gospel Singer, Songwriter and Evangelist Marsha Stevens to Appear at Jesus Metropolitan Community Church

Christian lesbian Evangelist, Marsha Stevens, will perform her original music at Jesus MCC, located at 2950 East 55th Place, Indianapolis on Friday, August 22, 2003 at 7:00 PM. There is no charge for admission to the performance, but an offering will be collected.

Marsha Stevens is the famed composer of "For Those Tears I Died (Come to the Water)", a standard of Christian hymnals since 1972. Since coming out as a lesbian and experiencing the rejection and scorn of a homophobic society - most fiercely expressed by the church she so devoutly served - she has focused her talents on evangelizing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community through her gospel music.

Highly respected in the Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC) and other affirming Christian groups, she is the first lay recipient of the prestigious Purple Grass Award for excellence as an evangelist. She has recorded eleven solo albums and a concert video on her independent BALM (Born Again Lesbian Music) label and she performs over 120 concerts a year. The Gay Music Guide rates two of her releases among the top 20 albums of 1995 and 1996. Considered shocking by some and comforting to others, she performs "The Body of Christ Has AIDS" and "Love Is The Only Law", as well as many other selections that express her distinct Christian views.

Jesus MCC is located three blocks east of Keystone on 56th Street, then half a block south. For directions, see www.jesusmcc.org.

Celebration of Diversity

Several racist fliers against the Latino population have circulated in some areas of Indianapolis in the last few weeks. The American Nazi Party is planning a national rally on August 24th in Indianapolis. This hate group chose Indianapolis because of the large increase in the immigrant population.

We strongly believe that is very important for OUR community to send a clear, positive message and counter these kind of negative hateful messages. We believe that it is everyone's responsibility to stand up for what's right, both for our LGBT community and the larger Indianapolis community.

We urge you to attend an alternative event planned on August 24th. "The Celebration of Diversity" will take place at noon at the Indianapolis City Market (Market St. and Delaware St.). An International Music concert, a brief prayer services and a short program is planned; Rabbi Dennis Sasso will be the keynote speaker.

Everybody is welcome to join us to celebrate the diversity in our state. If you have any suggestions, ideas or questions, please contact the organizers, in care of Richardo Gambetta at
