Rock Indiana for Indiana Youth Group (IYG)!
Did you know that many of our GLBT youth are without a place to call home?
Did you know that Indiana Youth Group (IYG) provides an outreach program for these youth?
Their outreach program includes hosting "food nights" where IYG oversees a potluck dinner so these kids can have a hot meal and be among friends. IYG has been reaching out to youth for many years, and this year they lost their grant funding.
The Rock Indiana Campaign wants to help! We have formed a team for the Homeward Bound 5k Walk to Provide Housing and Fight Homelessness. We will walk on Sunday, April 10th at University Park, Indianapolis.
The best thing about participating in this walk is that we can choose to which organization our funds go, and we are making sure ALL of our funds go to IYG. And once the dollars are earmarked for IYG, they stay there!
But Wait! There's More!
Not only will we be raising money for our youth, we will also be using this opportunity to get the word out about the Rock Indiana Campaign against SJR7. Our t-shirts will include a memorable message conveying that SJR7 is discriminatory and bad for Indiana. Everyone walking will see our message!
Would you like to join the Rock Indiana Campaign Team Either by Walking & Donating or by Donating Only?
If so, go to http://www.homelesswalks.org , click on Central Indiana (Indianapolis), click on "Register Here" and follow the directions to join a team. You will see Rock Indiana Campaign as a listed team. Our goal for the Indianapolis walk is 100 people! Thus far many of our 26 organizers are walking. Help us meet our goal! (Where we will meet on April 10th TBD.)
What About T-Shirts?
This is one of the best parts about participating! We are creating a message for an iron-on transfer that you can print on your printer! All you'll need to do is find a t-shirt for the message! BUT, we do not have the message put together quite yet. Watch for further announcements in which the link for this transfer will be included.
What If I Can't Make it to Indianapolis to Walk?
Walks are taking place all over the state. If you would like to create a Rock Indiana Campaign team in one of the participating cities go to http://www.homelesswalks.org and join as a Rock Indiana Campaign team in your favorite city. You can use our iron-on transfer for t-shirts once they are available.
Please help IYG while sending the message that SJR7 is discriminatory and bad for Indiana!

Pamela Means' many honors include being named Falcon Ridge Folk Festival's #1 "Most Wanted New Artist", and both Wisconsin's "Folk Artist of the Year", and "Female Vocalist of the Year". Pamela has also been a Boston Music Award Nominee ("Outstanding Contemporary Folk Artist").

One of the most versatile performers of our time, Tomlin has starred on television, on stage and in the movies, most recently in last year's "I Love Huckabees," with Dustin Hoffman and Jude Law.
Lily Tomlin's presentation is the third of four programs in the inaugural Unique Lives & Experiences series in Indianapolis. Kim Phuc, "The Girl in the Picture," launched the series in mid-February, followed by CBS-TV's Lesley Stahl in March. The series concludes May 9 with "An Evening with Maya Angelou," featuring the legendary writer, director, poet, and social activist. Rock Indiana and Spend $2 Bills! April 25th until SJR7 is Defeated
GET THE WORD OUT TO YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!
The Rock Indiana economic power campaign is all about $2 Bills! It is a tried and true statement to reflect the spending power of GLBT folks and our fair-minded friends who denounce SJR7.
Since $2 bills stand out in our economy it will be a method by which retailers and those in receipt of $2 bills will know they are handling money in favor of equal rights; in opposition to SJR7.
Here are the particulars:
When
Campaign rollout is April 25. We will NOT begin $2 bill saturation before that time.
How Do We Obtain $2 Bills?
Churches & GLBT businesses as well as GLBT-friendly businesses are being contacted for participation in changing money, getting the word out and, if retail, making sure the $2 bills get back into circulation (i.e. giving change). We will distribute a list of participating retailers and churches as soon as we have a fairly comprehensive list.
Order from Banks: The participating churches and businesses will be asked to order $2 bills from their banks. BUT we as individuals should also order from banks. We have not found one yet (including credit unions) that will not order.
When ordering from banks there is a 5-7 day turnaround. So we should all order our $2 bills at least one week prior to April 25th.
There is no bank fee for ordering; it is just an equal exchange of money.
Will People Know Why They Are Receiving $2 Bills? We plan to give this campaign an approximate two-week saturation period before a press conference and press release. At that time people will realize why they are receiving $2 bills.
Where Should We Use $2 Bills? Everywhere! Anywhere! Restaurants, theatres . . .anyplace you shop! If you are inclined to pay creditors with $2 bills, go for it.
We are hoping for re-circulation by all retail establishments, but since there is no room in cash register drawers it is possible that the $2 bills will not be recirculated. We will have to keep flooding the market as much as possible and hope that our business friends will keep them going.
How Will We Know That the Campaign is a Success? We plan to keep tabs on the Federal Reserve $2 bill order rate from Indiana if we can. We are still working out details on this part, but the only way this will not be successful is if you do not participate! PLEASE PARTICIPATE! We all spend money and it only takes the extra step of exchanging our money.
But What if I Don't Carry Cash Anymore? Give those debit cards a vacation from time to time in order to make this successful! When planning to go out to eat; to patronize the arts, etc., plan to take your $2 bills!
This Sounds Like A Lot of Work There is no doubt that it will take some effort to exchange your money. But you do not have to exchange daily or even weekly. And how much you exchange is up to you. It is important to make that initial order and/or exchange money with the participating businesses or churches. After that it is up to each of us to determine how often we want to place orders. However, if you receive a $2 bill in change, get it back out there in circulation!
Watch for periodic Rock Indiana $2 Equal Rights Campaign updates and notices and even a flyer!
Let's ROCK INDIANA with GLBT and fair-minded-Hoosier spending power by getting $2 bills into circulation! But remember . . . . . even though you can order now, don't start until April 25th!
REMEMBER - $2 Bills = Equal Rights!

Joni Laurence in Concert
7pm Out Word Bound bookstore, 625 N. East St, Downtown Indy
Tickets: $8 day of show; $6 in advance
Joni Laurence sings, plays guitar and writes songs with strong vocals that are a unique blend of irony, imagination and introspection. On her newest record "Daphne Speaks" Joni experiments with a variety of musical styles including a traditional folk sound along with blues and pop. Joni was greatly influenced by musicians such as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Suzanne Vega, Nanci Griffith, and the Indigo Girls. Her songs of love and relationships are distinctively realistic, and she writes of common occurrences in the human experience like performance anxiety, self-confidence and growing affections for people and places.
The wagging butt of a tailless dog, a philosophical conversation between a tattered trash bag and a shard of glass, plus all the real-life expressions of love and laughter and hope and heartache that color everyday people’s lives. These are the experiences of Trashbag Birdie, the third solo CD by singer-songwriter Joni Laurence, a girl with a guitar who is anything but "just another" girl with a guitar.
