GayIndy.Org was started in May 1995 by Ken Shay to provide the Gay and Lesbian communities and their friends in Indianapolis a small piece of cyberspace to call home.
In a short time, GayIndy.Org became the Internet source for information about the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities of Indianapolis. By early 1996 an e-mail distribution list was started to keep people informed about events, activites and entertainment. In 1997, GayIndy.Org began offering web page space for not-for-profit groups and organizations serving the GLBT Communities of Indiana.
In early 1998, the site became part of Diversity, Inc.a not-for-profit community service organization.
Under the direction of the site's current webmaster, Jeff Newman, GayIndy.Org was re-worked and modernized in the fall of 2002. Several new features were added, including the Forum, an expanded news and events section, an automated community calendar, and automated business and organization listings.
Diversity, Inc. was dissolved in April 2003, and the site is currently maintained by Jeff Newman as a commercial-free volunteer community service project.
