The Library is a resource for the community. Members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered community are all invited to use the resources of the library at Diversity, Inc. during our posted hours of operation. Access to Archive material is more restricted, but is still available for research. Additional restrictions on what materials are available to be loaned are:
1. Material from the library may be checked out ONLY by members in good standing of Diversity. Diversity memberships are the primary source of funding for the library's expenses.
2. Borrowed books may be kept for a period of two (2) weeks. A renewal for an additional two weeks may be obtained by phoning the library on or before the original due date. Late fees in the amount of 10 cents per book, per day will be charged to the borrower.
3. Only three (3) books may be borrowed at any one time.
4. Only those books of which the library possesses two (2) or more copies are normally available for loan.
3. The exception to rule 4 involves recent books, published within the last ten years. A Diversity, Inc. member may borrow the sole copy of such a book by leaving a $20 deposit with the Library. This deposit (which is totally refunded upon the return of the book in good condition), would provide the necessary funds for the purchase of a replacement.
5. Some books, due to age or condition, may only be examined in the Library.
4. Accidents happen. The Library asks that any borrower in whose possession a library book is damaged or destroyed make restitution in the amount necessary to purchase a replacement.
8. Food or drink may not be consumed in the Library area.
9. To minimize the possibility of confrontation or lawsuit, minors ( those under 18) may not check material out of the library. There are some people who consider any positive treatment of gays and lesbians obscene and the library does contain material which is sexually explicit.
Most of these rules are basic for any library, private or public.
