Indianapolis, January 24, 2005-- Out Word Bound bookstore, the community’s own GLBT bookstore, has announced its "Music In the Stax" Spring 2005 concert series.
Partnering with IndyIndie, the successful promoter/producers of the clubhouse concert series, Out Word Bound hopes to fill a gap in the Indianapolis music scene with the "Music In the Stax" series. "The frustration that I heard from many performers saying that there wasn't anyplace to perform," said Tammara Tracy, co-owner of Out Word Bound. "There are so many traveling musicians that needed a place."
The gap is also characterized as a free-speech issue. "Right now, we as a community are going through some rough and critical times. Literature, Art and music can help keep our sanity, articulate our issues, build solidarity, and share the differing points of view. In these times, things must be said and that is what writers & artists do - beautifully."
The series became possible since Out Word Bound's bookstacks are now all movable on casters. So it’s easy enough to move all the books to the side - still accessible for anyone to browse throughout the show - and open up the space for a concert of close-knit music. The books also provide a wonderfully rich acoustic advantage.
"The more flexible space should allow many more activities as well," Tracy states. "We are exploring a Reader’s Theater, Selected Shorts series, spoken word/poetry open mics, and community salons."
When asked what type of artists would be performing for the "Music In the Stax" series, Tracy replied "hopefully those that would be of interest to our customers, new and established. Of course, lesbian and gay male artists are favored; but the series will not be exclusive. We have many affirming friends and allies out there." The Spring 2005 is:
