Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, a national organization working toward achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people, will be honor it's annual award recipients at the Indiana Benefit on Thursday, September 18, at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.

This year's recipients include the United Way Community Services of Monroe County, and Sarah Patterson, former president and leader of the Indianapolis chapter of Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).

In addition to the award recipients, the keynote speaker for the event will be Michael Adams, Lambda Legal director of education and public affairs. Honorary chair is Robert Gant, star of Showtime's "Queer as Folk."

The event includes a silent auction, which begins along with cocktail hour at 5:30 pm, followed by dinner and the awards presentation and keynote speech at 7 pm. For information about tickets to the benefit dinner, contact Linda Perdue at 317-926-8357 or Steve Verfaille 317-514-5908.

Lambda Legal has secured recent victories for the LGBT community, including the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn anti-gay sodomy laws in Texas and 12 other states, which secured a landmark precedent that will protect lesbians and gay men in all 50 states.
