Indianapolis, November 2. 2004-- Latin pop star Jade Esteban Estrada will bring a performance workshop for LGBT teens of Indiana Youth Group from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004. The workshops will take place at Indiana Youth Group located at 2943 East 46th Street in downtown Indianapolis.
The award-winning singer is currently in the midst of an international tour of his solo musical ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 1 and 2 which will take him from Manila to London over the next eight months. He is playing at the Alley Theatre in downtown Indianapolis from November 4-20, 2004. In his show he portrays LGBT icons famous and not so famous such as Billie Jean King, Ellen DeGeneres, Alexander the Great, Oscar Wilde and Susan B. Anthony.
Estrada was chief choreographer to Latin diva "Charo" and is the artistic director for the Experiencia Dance Company, the resident dance company of Teatro La Tea in New York. He has performed in 33 countries and in seven languages.
In 2002, he took part in the Human Right Campaign's BEING OUT ROCKS CD compilation with Melissa Etheridge, Cyndi Lauper, k.d. lang and host of other stars. He also won the Premio Estrella from LLEGO in Washington D.C. for Outstanding accomplishment and visibility in the entertainment industry as an openly gay Latino.
"I enjoyed puting together my one-man shows using my experiences in my life to create a piece of theatre. I believe all young people need encouragement in their own creativity so they can practice making responsible decisions," Estrada stated in an interview with WOR New York radio in September. "The performing arts can be used as a tool for teaching and learning."
Estrada will also perform a reading of the great works of Gertrude Stein and Oscar Wilde at Outword Bound Bookstore located at 625 N. East Street on November 6th and 13th at 5:30 p.m.
