Community Joins Together to Give Thanks

From Indy Pride Press

Individuals from several GLBT organizations joined Indy Pride in hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday, November 20 at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ.

According to Indy Pride President Gary Brackett, "The Indy Pride Community Thanksgiving Dinner exemplified the true diversity of the Indianapolis GLBT community." Approximately 75 people attended the Indy Pride Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

Indy Pride members donated and cooked turkeys and ham and asked others to bring side dishes and desserts. Paper products were donated by Metro Nightclub & Restaurant and soft drinks were donated by Fat Dick's Video. Bill Hendrix and Ted Fleischaker (The Word) coordinated the event. Participating organizations included the Gay Business Alliance (GBA), Indianapolis P-FLAG, Indiana Black Pride, Indy Soul Sistahs, INTRAA (Indiana Transgender Rights Advocacy Alliance), and IYG (Indiana Youth Group).

The Word sponsored the event. Indy Pride President Gary Brackett and Indy Pride Board Member Brad Plunkett presented award checks to the recipients of the Indy Pride Scholarships (see related article). After the presentation of the scholarships, the various organizations represented discussed their upcoming events.
