Stages Theatre Company - Audition Notice - "Why Do Little Girls... A Look Into the Woman's Spirit"

STAGES THEATRE COMPANY

"Why Do Little Girls...A Look Into the Woman's Spirit" is composed of one-act plays, monologues, and poems, which attempt to examine the outer and inner forces that influence the lives of females. For more information, call director Molly Bellner at (317) 341-5370.

IU GLTB Alumni Association Reception

The Indiana University Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Alumni Association invites all IU alumni and friends to a reception on Thursday, May 6, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Herron Gallery at Herron School of Art, IUPUI, 1701 N. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis. The informal gathering will serve as an opportunity to network with local alumni and learn about GLBT issues on IU campuses. The GLBT group also awards a scholarship each year for IU GLBT students.

Light hors d'oeuvres, drinks, door prizes and entertainment will be part of the evening's activities. Herron's annual Senior Show will serve as a backdrop, showcasing the skills and talents of the school's graduating students. The cost is $20 per person ($5 for students).

OutSpoken Gayla in Bloomington

You, your group, your family and friends are ALL invited to join us for OutSpoken Presents Gayla III: A Celebration of Lesbian Artists - to be held on Friday, May 7 from 7:30 to 10:30 pm at the Allison-Jukebox Community Center located at 349 S. Washington, Bloomington, IN. Doors will open at 7:30pm to view the artwork gallery, performances will start at 8:00pm.

Teresa Long, (www.teresalongmusic.com) R&B/folk singer and poet extraordinaire, headlines this benefit for the upcoming Bloomington Beacon LGBT Community Center. Other performers include Rebecca Keith, Sally Todd,Sara Jane Stoner, Denise Dill, Amanda Stevens, a large group of diverse, visual artists displaying their work and MUCH more!!!

Beverages and appetizers will be provided (This is a chem-free event)

Queer As Folk - Future Babylon Tour at Talbott

Showtime Networks, along with Embrace Productions are pleased to announce that this summer's "Midori presents Queer As Folk - Future Babylon Tour" will reach Indianapolis on Friday, May 7, 2004 at Talbott Street, at 2145 N. Talbott Street.

The "Midori presents Queer As Folk - Future Babylon Tour" takes place summer 2004 at the hottest nightclubs across North America. Showtime Networks and Embrace Productions deliver what Babylon, the popular onscreen nightclub in Queer As Folk, looks like in the year 2050. Fans can party with their favourite actors from the series at selected guest appearances. Witness cutting-edge dancer performances, futuristic décor and design by Miami's own "Future Boys," Rubio and Kidd Madonna of RKM Design and Production. All of the Future Babylon Tour's DJs have had their music featured in Queer As Folk episodes, including superstar DJ Manny Lehman, Miami's DJ Tracy Young, and Grammy Award winning re-mixer DJ Peter Rauhofer.

"Midori presents Queer As Folk - Future Babylon Tour" builds on the momentum of the highly successful Queer As Folk - The Babylon Tour of 2003, which achieved outstanding 90% capacity crowds, boasting over 40,000 patrons in attendance. "Midori presents Queer As Folk - Future Babylon Tour" reaches 18 North American cities.

Their songs shed light on issues such as globalization, consumer awareness, food politics, disengaging from capitalist greed, feminism, queer politics, racism and environmentalism. All seven of their independently released albums on their independent record label "Few'll Ignite Sound" weave politics and poetics in and out of daring musical arrangements. Auditions to be held at the Phoenix Theatre for Equity and Non-Equity performers

The Phoenix Theatre, a professional theatre in downtown Indianapolis, will be holding auditions Thursday, May 13th for NAKED BOYS SINGING, a musical revue by Robert Schrock. NAKED BOYS SINGING is a high-camp tribute to American musical theatre and burlesque. The production runs from June 17 to July 25.

Auditions will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 13th at the Phoenix Theatre, 749 North Park Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Auditioners should prepare a song and be prepared to learn a dance combination. Those performers not based in Indianapolis may call the theatre to schedule an alternative audition time.

Rehearsals begin May 24. A specific schedule will be made once the show is cast.

Performances are Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. The production runs from June 17 to July 25.

PFLAG meeting for MAY(Bloomington)

Wednesday May 19

Please join us on Wednesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church (100 N. State Road 46 Bypass, between 3rd and 10th streets)in Room 8. This month we'll hear from individuals who are members of the steering committee for The Bloomington Beacon, a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center. Efforts have been underway to make the center a reality. Space has been leased and will be ready for occupancy this summer. Come and hear about the plans for the center and join in the discussion about how you can become involved in this exciting endeavor. This is an open meeting and all are welcome.

(Bloomington Beacon, Inc., is a community-based, non-profit, corporation that seeks to promote educational, economic and cultural opportunities for LGBT people in south-central Indiana through creation of an LGBT community center and newspaper, located in Bloomington.)

PHOENIX THEATRE PRESENTS THE INDIANA PREMIERE OF TOP DOG/UNDERDOG, THE PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING PLAY, IN LIMITED THREE-WEEK RUN

Suzan-Lori Parks' "Cain and Abel" story of two African-American brothers was called "The most exciting play to hit Broadway since Angels in America" by The New York Times

A year-and-a-half after presenting the Indiana premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning PROOF, the Phoenix Theatre offers another winner of that cherished accolade in TOP DOG/UNDERDOG by Suzan-Lori Parks. This powerful play, dramatizing a game of one-upmanship between two African-American brothers, will open with a half-price preview on Thursday, May 27 and continue through Sunday, June 13. Tickets are $22.50 for those 25 and over; $12.00 for those 24 and under. Tickets can be purchased with a credit card by calling 317-635-PLAY (317-635-7529).

TOP DOG/UNDERDOG tells the story of two African-American brothers named Lincoln and Booth. Their names were chosen by their father as his idea of a joke. Abandoned by their parents, they grew up together, meandering through a child welfare maze. Now in their thirties, they live together in a rented room. Lincoln has an unlikely job appearing (in whiteface) as Abraham Lincoln in a local arcade. Booth is jobless, working on his skills playing the game of three card monte, skills he thinks will earn him money and respect.

Single tickets are $22.50 for those 25 and over, $12.00 for those 24 and under. Group rates for adults are available for groups of 15 or more. Season FlexPasses are available for $112.50 (plus a $2.50 handling fee). FlexPasses provide six adult admissions and can be used in any combination. FlexPasses will not be sold after June 1.

Curtain Times:

Thursday night performances start at 6:30pm. Friday and Saturday night curtain time is 8:00 and Sunday matinees start at 2:00.

Indiana Youth Group's LGBT Youth Prom 2004

Theme: Red Carpet - come as your favorite star! Dress up like you're going to an Oscar party or come in drag. Make your statement!

The prom will be held from 8pm - midnight at the Junior Achievement building, 7435 N. Keystone Ave. (near WalMart) Bring your school I.D. or driver's license, the dance is youth-only (age 24 and under)

The cost in advance is single $5 / couple $10, and day of event single $7 / couple $12.

Light snacks and drinks will be available during the dance. Noble Romans Express will be open until 11pm for those who want to purchase other food. Vote for prom King and Queen.
