To kick off the ticket sales for HAIRSPRAY, the Toyota Broadway in Indianapolis and Indy Pride, Inc. have teamed up to host a fund raising event for Indianapolis Youth Group (IYG).
To keep in the spirit of the musical, the event will feature a wig contest. The wigs will be worn by local female illusionists during the kick-off party, which will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Talbott Street. The wigs will be judged by the attendees by their donations. The higher the hair the better the chances of winning!
Indianapolis area salons and stylists will be participating by entering a wig in the contest. The show will begin at 8:00 p.m. Cover charge is $5.00. The salon or stylist with the winning entry will be given two (2) of the best seats in the house for Hairspray. Come out and see the wigs, buy your tickets for Hairspray and donate money to IYG!

People's Agenda Town Hall Meeting
Make Your Voice Heard! Tell Your Legislators Why SJR 7, a Constitutional Amendment Banning Same-Sex Marriage, is Wrong
Citizens from across Indiana have their chance to get their voice heard at the 5th Annual People's Agenda at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis. The event starts at 8:30. Seating begins at 6:30 p.m., at the House Chambers, 3rd Floor, Indiana Statehouse, 200 W. Washington Street, Indianapolis
To Register: To reserve a seat, email your name, address and phone number to Young-Hee Yedinak, Community Affairs Senior Producer [email protected] or call (317) 655-5619.
On January 25th tell your State Legislators know why you believe that a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage is wrong for Indiana!
No group of people should be fenced out of the Constitution. Constitutions give rights to people, they don't strip them away.
A marriage amendment would damage Indiana's weak economy even further. It would discourage progressive corporations from locating here, undercutting the successful recruitment policies of Indiana businesses and universities, and sending a message to bright, talented individuals inside and outside Indiana that an entire class of citizens and their families are unwelcome.
A marriage amendment could impose inappropriate mandates on Indiana's business and universities.
The proposed marriage amendments won't "protect traditional families," but will cause real harm to real families, young and old, gay and straight.

Bloomington PRIDE Film Festival
PRIDE, Bloomington's only annual film festival , is devoted to issues and situations concerning the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) communities. PRIDE is guided by a steering committee of 25 volunteers. From university students to senior citizens, the steering committee has helped to choose this year's selections.
Over 60 films were submitted from all over the world (Canada, Brazil and the United Kingdom) and 19 are now selected. This year's festival will feature three, separate programs of short films and a sassy party to help kick off the festival in a celebratory fashion.
One Wedding and a Revolution Filmmaker: Debra Chasnoff
Academy AwardŽ-winner Debra Chasnoff's latest film One Wedding and a Revolution captures the first government-sanctioned wedding of a gay or lesbian couple in San Francisco on February 12, 2004. That morning, Chasnoff received a last-minute call from city hall to document the ceremony between longtime lesbian activists Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon. Chasnoff turned that impromptu invitation into a fascinating new documentary, featuring exclusive interviews with mayor Gavin Newson, his staff and community leaders. This behind-the-scenes look at city hall during the frantic days leading up to February 12 documents a milestone not only in gay and lesbian history, but American history as well.
Off the Beaten Path BLOOMINGTON Filmmaker,: Scott Schirmer
Lewis is a devout Christian who strives to lead a righteous life. Skeet is a militant queer, hell-bent on pushing people's buttons. Puff is an eighteen year-old Peter Pan on pot. After their friend Paul tries to end his life, these disparate young me must suffer their differences to embark on a comedic yet volatile journey that will bring them together or tear them apart.
A Different Kind of Black Man Filmmaker: Sheila Wise
A powerful look at the ideas and feelings of successful, black gay men on such issues as sexuality, masculinity and their perception of and their role within the black community.
Ginger Beer Filmmaker: Seamus Rea
Paul wants to escape the pressures of teaching his homophobic students by entering the fantasy world of ballroom dancing. After a disastrous experience at a straight dancing school, Paul's life takes a definite turn for the better when he discovers Linda, the glamorous lesbian dance teacher. But who will he be dancing with at the college Xmas party?
Listen Filmmaker: Susan Justin

Afterschool Delight Filmmaker: Eve Bregman

Sweet Life Filmmaker: Tom Keegan
Two men wake up one morning to make an unusual concoction and the result is truly a bundle of joy.
The Rubi Girls Filmmaker: Jonathan McNeal
Audience Award Winner at the Out on Film Festival, Atlanta Georgia, 2003 Since the 1980's, a tight-knit group of professional men has been performing The Rubi Girls. The group began during college when they would perform for one another in an attic. Jonathan McNeal became a regular Rubi Girl performer, after shooting footage of the group while in film school. The documentary combines interviews, live performance, and archival footage from the "early days". This film attempts to redefine the term "family values", as well as trace the history of the "Girls" and their zany antics.
Drag Queen Heist Filmmaker: JT Tepnapa
Best Short Film, Ft. Worth Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival, 2004 An action comedy about lipstick, mascara, and bank robbery! Jared has an infallible plan to rob the 2nd Fidelity Bank. Unfortunately, Jared's boyfriend and co-conspirator Bobby is anything but infallible - and soon the two are embroiled in much more than they bargained for. Take two drag queens, two old ladies, a detective, a tight-butt bartender, and a convenience store owner, and you have a recipe for disaster.
Freud Slips Filmmaker: David M. Young
The elderly Sigmund Freud himself may have some issues to work out when he visits a modern day health club - and becomes obsessed with all the hot, well-built, younger men.
Coolie Gyal Filmmaker: Ranata Mohamed
An honest and intimate letter from a daughter to her parents.
Unhung Heroes Filmmaker: Ilya Perlman
"Unhung Heroes" is a comic fiction about five FTM (female to male) transgendered men who, after finding an internet article announcing the first actual penis transplants are about to be performed, imagining a scheme to come up with over a million dollars in surgery money. Riffing on influences as diverse as Reservoir Dogs, Busby Berkeley and Peter Berlin movies, this action-packed comedy starts with their experience of life as a 'guy without a dick,' then follows their rosy fantasies of life 'post-transplant,' and the crazy imaginary lengths they go to for the money.
Proud Alumni, 2004 Filmmaker: Sheila Schroeder
Rejection of any kind can be difficult, but when your beloved alma mater dismisses you and your beloved life partner, sparks fly. Proud Alumni explores themes of rejection and hope as it ties personal discrimination to the intolerance and open bigotry of the current administration's support of the Defense of Marriage Act. The title, like the film, alludes to the filmmaker's struggle to maintain pride in her various communities. As symbols of oppression smolder, Proud Alumni shatters the subjugation and asks the audience to consider the question, "What will we do with all this beauty?"
Beauties Without a Cause Filmmaker: David Weissman
Fast cars, fast women, guns and petty crime. Just another crime movie except these gals are packing more than pistols...
You Fake Filmmaker: Maureen Bradley
In this hilarious short, two women bet on how many lesbians fake orgasms.
