MOBY DICK! THE MUSICAL WILL LAUNCH TOTS' 2003/04 SEASON

MOBY DICK! THE MUSICAL opens on August 15, 2003 and runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 through September 13, 2003 at a cost of $20 per ticket. Admission for students and senior citizens is $17, with group rates available.

The girls of St. Godley's School are in trouble! Money for the school has run out and the place will have to close. Leave it to these resourceful girls, and their unflappable headmistress (played by a man in drag), to come up with a plan to keep the school afloat. Using whatever they can find at hand, the girls mount an original production: a musical version of Moby Dick, featuring their headmistress in the coveted role of Captain Ahab.

A cult favorite in London in the 1990s, Moby Dick! The Musical has been re-conceived for an American sensibility. As Melville rolls in his grave, our spirited girls run roughshod over the classic as they carry on with their presentation. Warning: What The Rocky Horror Show does to late night horror movies, Moby Dick! The Musical does to Herman Melville! As the girls perform their adaptation of the classic novel, they develop an appreciation of education and camaraderie - NOT! Filled with double and triple entendre, and more goofy humor than you can imagine, St. Godley's presentation of Moby Dick! The Musical is sure to make audiences laugh -- and exit humming an irresistible musical score.

To purchase tickets, please contact the TOTS Box Office at 317-637-8085. For more information and directions to the theatre, check out www.tots.org

PHOENIX THEATRE PRESENTS INDIANA PREMIERE OF THE GOAT BY EDWARD ALBEE

Albee's controversial Tony-Award-winning play opens 2003-2004 season

The Phoenix Theatre has announced their 2003-2004 season, opening with Edward Albee's Tony Award-winning comedy, The Goat. As is usually the case at the Phoenix Theatre, the emphasis is on new work: "Most of the plays in our season," says Producing Director Bryan Fonseca, "are state, if not regional or world premieres. Collectively, they deal with political, sexual, social and cultural acceptance. They each address an individual's responsibility in a complex and evolving society. Each play addresses the issues with compassion, brutal clarity, and humor."

The Goat, which won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2002, has caused controversy since its opening. Almost four decades after shocking Broadway with Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Edward Albee proves he can still shake things up. This time the catalyst for the action is the discovery of a love affair that defies all reason. Fifty year-old Martin, a major architect, confesses to Ross, a radio journalist and his best friend, his unimaginable indiscretion. Alarmed and repulsed by the news, Ross reveals the affair to Martin's wife and gay son. The resulting confrontations reveal the extraordinary love that has held the family together. The Goat shows Albee at his best: witty, hilarious dialogue, merciless verbal sparring, and the souls of every character left exposed and vulnerable.

Dates and times for The Goat:

Thursdays at 6:30pm Sep 18 (half-price preview), Sep 25, Oct 2, Oct 9, Oct 16
Fridays at 8:00 Sep 19, Sep 26, Oct 3, Oct 10, Oct 17
Saturdays at 8:00 Sep 20, Sep 27, Oct 4, Oct 11, Oct 18
Sundays at 2:00 Sep 21, Sep 28, Oct 5, Oct 12, Oct 19

Ticket Information:

Single tickets are $22.50 for those 25 and over, $12.00 for those 24 and under. Season FlexPasses are available for $112.50 (plus a $2.50 handling fee). FlexPasses provide six adult admissions and can be used in any combination. "Though our youth rate has increased," says Phoenix Theatre Marketing Director Dave Ruark, "we still offer the best rate of any professional theatre in town." Group rates for adults are available for groups of 15 or more.

Curtain Times:

Thursday night performances will now start at 6:30pm every week. "We experimented with other Thursday times last season," says Dave Ruark, "and we decided that a consistent Thursday curtain time is what our patrons wanted." Theatre on the Square presents History of the Devil, by Clive Barker

From the international master of horror Clive Barker comes this witty and shocking comedy/drama. Samuel Kyle is a successful London barrister preparing for another day in court. Suddenly his world is shattered by the arrival of a winged demon, who whisks him off to the swampy, bug-infested shores of Lake Turkana, Kenya where Kyle is horrified to discover that he and others have been pressed into service to try a most unusual case - that of Satan himself.

Lucifer wishes either to be exonerated for his alleged crimes against humanity and returned to Heaven, or unambiguously condemned for all Eternity. Clue by clue, they piece together the mystery of Evil Incarnate. The play has a gritty subject matter, but is done in a comic tone; it could be described as black humor. Barker has given the Devil a personality rather than a personification. He stays away from all cliche'd embodiments of the Devil, and makes him into something almost human. At times almost comical, and certainly something audiences can identify with, History of the Devil gives us the softer side of Hell.

See www.tots.org for ticket information, show times and more!

PAGANS CELEBRATE HARVEST, BENEFIT COMMUNITY ON PAGAN PRIDE DAY

Celebrate the Autumn Equinox and help the Central Indiana community at Indianapolis's Pagan Pride Day festival on Saturday, September 27, 2003, from 9 AM to 6 PM, in Broadripple Park. All ages are welcome at the free event, which will feature several Pagan religious ceremonies, information on Pagan spiritual practices, workshops, vendors, psychic readings, holistic health services, drumming circles, music, children's activities, and more. Attendees are asked to share the harvest by bringing a non-perishable food item, clothing, or toiletries to benefit the Damien Center.

Indianapolis's local event is affiliated with the Pagan Pride Project, a global organization whose mission is to present the diversity and community impact of Neo-Paganism, a modern religious movement. By providing accurate information, and by showing communities that their neighbors and co-workers practice these religions, they hope to lessen prejudice against them.

Last year 17,494 people attended the 105 Pagan Pride Day events held in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal, and Brazil. Together, they collected $19,202.48 and donated 24,244 pounds of food and goods to charity. More than 130 events are scheduled for this year.

Saturday's celebration will center on a religious service observing the Autumn Equinox, a time of thanksgiving in many Pagan traditions. The charity drive is a way to give thanks for the abundance of the year, and share it with our community. The ceremony will celebrate the diversity of the Pagan community and bless the results of the charity drive before it is given away. Participants are encouraged to bring percussion instruments for drumming.

Modern Paganism, or Neo-Paganism, is a rapidly growing religious movement based on combinations of ancient polytheism, modern eco-spirituality, and reverence for the Divine as both masculine and feminine. Some common traditions found under this umbrella include Wicca or Witchcraft, Asatru, and Druidry. Pagans are found in all walks of life from professionals to homemakers, and hold ethical standards that emphasize respect for nature, humanity, and oneself.

For more information about the event or about Pagan religions, contact Dagonet or Cecylyna Dewr at 317-916-9115, , or http://www.paganpride.org.
