Seats are $10 each - General Admission (performers get all the money). Vic's coffeehouse will be providing food/beverage service.

Music in the Stax is an intimate acoustic experience featuring great artists (sometimes on short notice!) sponsored by IndyIndie and hosted at Out Word Bound bookstore, 625 N. East Street, Downtown Indy, 317-951-9100.

About Moanin' Michelle Malone..
That old R&B song with the lyric "Devil or Angel, what will she be?" always comes to mind when I think about the talented Michelle Malone. MM was barely out of high school, yet she wowed Mr. Bars and Star maker himself, Clive Davis, who took a personal interest in what he thought would be his next major diva. Well, he got the temperament and the talent right, but this classy lassie from Atlanta felt more akin to Georgia Rock Icons like the Allman Brothers and The Georgia Satellites, or Otis Redding and Blind Willie McTell, than she did to La Whitney etc...Malone has the chops, but this guitar "babe" just wanted to rock with her boys in Drag the River.

Drumming with natural rhythms, such as our hearbeat, is a wonderful way to relax and reduce stress in a community of like-minded people. If you have a drum, you may bring it, but a drum or experience is not necessary. The Natural Rhythms drumming circle will meet on the third Thursday of each month. It is free and open to the public. The church is located at 95 North Jefferson in Danville, just a half block north of the Courthouse Square and US 36. For more information, call Judie Hansen at 7-888-556-1415.

Adopt a Work of Art at The Kinsey Institute!

The Kinsey Institute will hold its fourth "Adopt a Work of Art" event on Thursday, December 16th. Approximately 50 unframed drawings, paintings, prints, and photographs will be on display, and visitors will be invited to "adopt" an artwork by making a tax-deductible donation to cover the cost of framing the piece of their choice. We will acknowledge each "adoption" by placing the donor's name on a label to be displayed with the piece when it is exhibited. In the past, some of our donors have chosen to adopt an artwork in honor of a friend or relative-the perfect holiday gift for that person who has everything!

Some of the pieces that will be offered for adoption will be featured in Out of Russia: The Art of Chagall, Tchelitchew, and Avinoff, an exhibition that opens in the Kinsey Institute Gallery in February.

Please call 855-7686 or send an e-mail to curator Catherine Johnson-Roehr at [email protected] to schedule a specific time to view the works that will be available for adoption. If you are unable to visit the Institute on December 16th, you may contact us to arrange another time to view the works.

UUI Winter Solstice Celebration!

7 P.M. at the UUI Sanctuary

Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis
615 West 43rd Street
Indianapolis, IN 46208 USA

This will be a celebration of the darkness and the light with songs and stories. There will be a Yule log where you can write out and blaze your intentions for the year or perhaps leave something from this year behind. We will have songs, meditations, a sumptuous feast, and a ceremonial bonfire afterward to which all participants are invited. We will also have a candlelit labyrinth walk. Children are welcome.

This non-denominational gathering will feature chants, sing-a-longs, candle lighting, bell ringing, and moments of silence, all designed to take the participants through the transition of descending into darkness and emerging into light and hope. Its participatory nature makes the service ideal for children.

The ritual, which will run approximately 75 minutes, will be followed by an indoor feast, then an outdoor fire. UUI's permanent outdoor labyrinth will also be candle lit and available to participants.

If you would like to contribute to the feast, contact Eric Hinkle at 329-7522 or Kinzua LeSuer at 758-6720. If you would like more information, contact Pam Blevins Hinkle at 329-7522. Hope to see you there.
