Pride Parade Gets Green Light from City

Indy Pride's plans for a parade to be part of the IN Pride 2003 Festival seemed to be at a dead end thanks to Indianapolis downtown construction.

Scheduled for June 14th and listed as "TBA" in the IN Pride event announcements, Indy Pride was not letting out a lot of information about the parade for a good reason: the request was originally turned down by the city due to the "hyperfix" construction project currently underway downtown.

But a letter from Indy Pride's Gary Brackett to Director of Public Safety Robert Turner prompted a meeting with other city officials, who reconsidered and decided to allow the parade to take place after all.

Beginning at 9:00 am, the parade will start at Mass. Avenue and College, and will continue down Mass. Avenue to Vermont Street. It will turn onto Vermont Street and end at University Park, where the IN Pride Street Festival will be held.

More information about the IN Pride 2003 festival and the parade can be found on Indy Pride's website at www.indyprideinc.com.
