Appearance by Indiana's First Woman Lt. Governor Highlights May 12th Stonewall Democrat Fundraiser

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Democrats and their friends have announced the appearance of the first woman to serve as Indiana's Lieutenant Governor.

Lt. Governor Katherine L. Davis will be present on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 for a reception being organized by the Indiana Stonewall Democrats.

Davis was unanimously confirmed the 49th Lieutenant Governor of Indiana in October 2003 by the Indiana General Assembly. She is the first woman to hold the position. Lt. Governor Davis holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master's degree from Harvard Business School.

Davis has worked for Cummins, Inc. in Columbus, Indiana where she managed assembly and shipping operations. She work for the Indiana Department of Transportation as Deputy Commissioner, served as state budget director and served as secretary for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration where she was responsible for a $4 billion budget and 11,000 employees. Lieutenant Governor Davis managed the start-up of the Indiana 21st Century Research and Technology Fund, a fund designed to promote technology and economic development and spent four years as controller for the City of Indianapolis under Mayor Bart Peterson.

The May 12th reception with Lt. Governor Davis will take place at 115 E. Ohio Street (former site of Dave's Finish Line), Indianapolis from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.. Cost for the cocktail reception is $75, with a patron reception with Lt. Governor Davis being conducted afterward at $150 per person.

The event will also feature presentation of the "Frank and Judy O'Bannon Equality Award" to Democratic State Senators Rose Ann Antich-Carr (Merrillville), Anita O. Bowser (Michigan City), Billie J. Breaux (Indianapolis), Glenn L. Howard (Indianapolis), Tim Lanane (Anderson), Earline S. Rogers (Gary), and Vi Simpson (Bloomington) for their vote against Senate Joint Resolution 7 (Definition of Marriage), plus the presence of numerous other Democrats supportive of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues.
