HIV/AID Programs Among Recipients of Health Foundation Grants

As part of its ongoing commitment to improve health care in central Indiana, The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis has awarded nearly $134,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations serving youth and senior citizens.

CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions, an Indianapolis organization that helps older adults and people with disabilities receive in-home services, was awarded $75,000 to support The Generations Project, a collaborative education, organizing and advocacy group of 11 nonprofits serving the elderly and the disabled. The money will be used to help improve Indiana's system of long-term care, with the objective of eliminating waiting lists for home- and community based services within five years.

Other recipients of grants from The Health Foundation are:

  • Jameson Camp, which received $20,000 to support Camp Tataya Mato, a provider of camping and recreational opportunities to children living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Planned Parenthood of Greater Indiana, Inc., which received $16,227 for the Indiana Public Schools Comprehensive Sexuality Education Assessment. This study, conducted by Indiana University professors who are experts in health education, will provide the first accurate picture of Indiana public schools' HIV/AIDS and sexuality education programs. This data will be used to help ensure quality health education delivery throughout the state.
  • Social Health Association, which received $22,500 to support health education programs, particularly within the Indianapolis Public Schools. The programs encourage young people to adopt healthy behaviors and avoid risky behaviors that could endanger their health today and into adulthood.

The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis is a private foundation that funds health-related projects not easily funded by other means, and organizations that offer health and health-related services, primarily to the community's poorest and most vulnerable citizens.
