There are two types of public HIV testing, confidential and anonymous.
GayIndy.Org recommends that you research this topic carefully prior to being tested so that you can make informed decisions about your health and your privacy.
For an anonymous test, you will be given a number or fake name to receive your results. No one will know that you have been tested. You alone have the result and no written results will be given.
For a confidential test, you will be asked for your name. If you test is positive for HIV, a report including your name will be made to the Health Department. The Health Department keeps the names confidential and does not release them to other agencies or persons. If you need your results in writing, you will need to be tested at a Confidential test site.
Note: A local GLBT organization has expressed concern about what it terms the "invasively high level of scrutiny" of HIV positive people by the state of Indiana in the confidential system, and what it describes as "the many perils allowed and/or required by law potentially faced by those whose names are reported under that system." Again, we recommend that you research this topic carefully.
